A recent study of over two thousand five hundred people in the UK showed that just one in seven people were able to correctly identify the symptoms of a stroke. A new study of 2,500 people in the UK has revealed that a mere 14% can accurately identify the signs of a stroke. The research, conducted by the Stroke Association, surveyed people from all backgrounds. It found that many of those surveyed were unaware of the symptoms associated with a stroke. The most commonly-known symptom of a stroke was sudden weakness on one side of the body, which was identified by only 44% of those surveyed. The Stroke Association has warned that this lack of knowledge could put people at risk of having a stroke and not realising it. The charity has urged members of the public to learn the signs of a stroke, so that they can act quickly if they or a loved one experience any of the symptoms.
