Since 2008, Nigerian unmet need for contraception declined by 8.7 points year on year. In 2018, the prevalence of contraceptive use among Nigerian women aged 15-49 rose 12.2 points to 12 percent, compared to 10.7 percent in 2017. This marks an increase of 4.1 points since 2008. Meanwhile, the unmet need for contraception among the same age group decreased to 18.9 percent in 2018, down from 27.6 percent in 2017. This is a decrease of 8.7 points since 2008.
