The Maldives saw a huge jump in prescription glasses imports in 2018, with figures rising by 140.4% compared to the previous year. Imports totaled $618.27, up from $257.21 in 2017. Unfortunately, the country has seen a steady decline in demand for prescription glasses since 2000, with a 2.7% year-on-year decrease. In 2018, the Maldives placed 99th in the global ranking. Zambia held the top spot, followed by India, Hungary and the Dominican Republic.
