Consumption of millet in Niger is on the rise and is projected to reach 3,040 thousand metric tons by 2026. This is an increase of 0.9% year on year on average, since 2017. In 2021, Niger was ranked second in the world for millet consumption with 2,880 thousand metric tons, behind India. It was followed by Nigeria, Mali and other countries. Nigerien millet production is also forecast to increase to 3,588,900 metric tons by 2026, with a growth rate of 0.5% year on year on average. Since 1966, however, supply has decreased by 1.9% year on year. Nigeria, China and Mali are next in line behind Niger in this ranking.
