Sri Lankan demand for millet is expected to reach 16 thousand metric tons in 2026. Consumption has been growing at a rate of 2.7% year-on-year since 2017, and in 2021 the country was ranked 34th in the world. Afghanistan topped the ranking with 13 thousand metric tons, followed by Niger, Nigeria and Mali. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan production of millet rose by 19.3% from 2018 to 2019, reaching 68 metric tons. Despite this growth, supply was still down by 54.3% compared to 1966. Sri Lanka was ranked 80th in 2019, with Serbia at the top with 68 metric tons, followed by Nigeria, China and Mali.
