South African imports of butadiene fell by 31.7% year on year to 4.9 million kilograms in 2021. This was a 34.7% decrease since 2005. Russia led the ranking, followed by China, France and the United States. In 2018, South African butadiene exports increased by 80% to 9 kilograms, compared to the 5 kilograms in 2017. Since 2009, exports had grown by 1.4% annually. Switzerland came first in this ranking, followed by Germany, Belgium and Brazil.
