Iceland is set to see a significant drop in tobacco consumption over the next five years. By 2028, only 2% of Icelanders aged 15 and older are projected to be daily smokers, a sharp decline from the current 5.4% recorded in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 16 percentage points. The trend is not new; since 1992, the number of daily smokers in Iceland has been steadily falling, with an average annual decline of nearly 9 percentage points. The upcoming reduction highlights the continued success of anti-smoking campaigns and policies in the country.
