Global tobacco production is projected to decline to approximately 6.3 million metric tons by 2028, down from around 6.4 million metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 0.4%. Historically, global tobacco supply had been increasing at an average rate of 0.6% per year since 1966. In 2023, China led the world in tobacco production, contributing nearly 2.4 million metric tons. India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe followed, ranking second, third, and fourth, respectively. Among notable changes, Sri Lanka's tobacco production surged by 10.8% year-over-year. In stark contrast, Jordan experienced a significant decline, with production falling by 40.2% annually since 1966.
