Hungarian tobacco production is projected to decline significantly over the next few years. By 2028, output is expected to drop to approximately 3,740 metric tons, down from 5,160 metric tons in 2023. This marks an average annual decrease of 5.1%. A historical perspective shows that Hungarian tobacco supply has been on a downward trend since 1966, with an average annual decline of 5%. In 2023, Hungary ranked 51st globally in tobacco production, just behind Rwanda, which also produced 5,160 metric tons. Leading the global rankings in tobacco production are India, Brazil, and Zimbabwe, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. On the demand side, Hungary has also seen a decrease. Since 2014, domestic demand for tobacco has fallen by an average of 0.7 percentage points each year.
