This marks an increase from around $1.28 billion PPP in 2023, reflecting an average annual growth rate of 2.3%. Since 2012, Italy's investment in pharmaceutical R&D has been on the rise, growing at an average rate of 7.4% per year. In the global rankings for 2023, Italy secured the sixth position. Hungary surpassed Italy with an R&D expenditure matching $1.28 billion PPP. Leading the rankings were China, Germany, and South Korea, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
