Dutch Maritime Transport Sales are projected to surge to €10.9 billion by 2028, up from €10.2 billion in 2023. This represents a steady annual growth rate of 1% over the next five years. Since 2010, the Dutch market has experienced a more modest annual increase of 0.6%. In 2023, the Netherlands secured the seventh spot in the European maritime transport rankings, with Italy leading the pack at €10.2 billion. Denmark, France, and the United Kingdom ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Meanwhile, the Dutch vessel fleet is expected to decline to 31,360 units by 2028, down from 33,460 units this year, marking an annual decrease of 1%. This trend continues a longer-term decline, as the Dutch fleet has been shrinking by an average of 2.1% annually since 2002. In the 2023 rankings, the Netherlands placed twelfth, with Malta ahead at 33,460 units. Italy, Denmark, and Croatia followed in second, third, and fourth places, respectively.
