However, the country's demand for weapons has seen a significant decline since 1973, falling by 10% year on year. In 2023, the United Arab Emirates ranked 16th globally in terms of weapon imports. The Netherlands surpassed the UAE with imports valued at around $670 million. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait secured the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the export front, Emirati weapon exports plummeted to $12 million in 2022, a sharp decline from $57 million in 2021, marking a 79% decrease. Since 1995, the UAE's weapon supply has dwindled by an average of 34.7% annually.
