In 2023, Malta ranked 33rd in food expenditures globally, with Iceland surpassing it at about €900 million. France, Italy, and the United Kingdom held the second, third, and fourth spots respectively. However, Maltese food sales saw a decline in 2020, dropping to roughly €356 million from around €364 million in 2019.
