Waste levels of food in Canada are set to inch up by 2026. Currently at 36,340 thousand metric tonnes, the quantity of food waste treated in the country is projected to reach 37,780 thousand metric tonnes over the next five years. This is an increase of 0.6% year-on-year, compared to the 1.2% growth rate since 2001. France is currently outpacing Canada in terms of food waste. It has come out on top with 36,340 thousand metric tonnes in 2021, followed by Germany, Japan, and Mexico, in that order.
