Global food waste is expected to reach almost 1.7 million metric tons by 2026. This is an increase of 0.4% year-on-year on average, since 2016. The US led the way in 2021, with 268,090 metric tons, followed by Germany, Japan, and Mexico. Lithuania's food waste declined 1.1% year-on-year since 2016, while the Czech Republic saw an 8.8% increase. Global food waste generated is forecast to reach 900,200 metric tons by 2026, a 0.7% rise year-on-year on average. In 2021, the US topped the list with 268,290 metric tons, with China, Germany, and Japan in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Japan experienced a 0.8% decrease in food waste since 2016, while the Czech Republic saw a 9.7% increase.
