Italy is set to become one of the largest exporters of bauxite in the world, with exports projected to reach 1,460 thousand metric tons by 2026. This is a 1% year-on-year average growth rate since 1996 when the supply was 2.5% higher than the previous year. In 2021, Italy ranked number 7, with Greece coming ahead at 1,380 thousand metric tons. Ireland, the Netherlands and France were respectively numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking. Meanwhile, Italy's bauxite imports are expected to reach 2,550 thousand metric tons by 2026, a 0.5% year-on-year average decline since 1996 when the demand was 0.7% higher than the previous year. In 2021, Norway moved ahead of Italy with 2,630 thousand metric tons, while Spain, Ireland and France respectively were numbers 2, 3 and 4 in this ranking.
