Exports saw a dramatic increase in 2018, with 6.8 million kilograms shipped compared to 1.8 million kilograms the previous year - a 276 percent rise. Since 1996, exports have fallen 58 percent yearly. In 2018, Romania was ranked 71st in the world in terms of gypsum exports, with Portugal overtaking it in terms of shipments. Thailand, Spain, and Iran were the top three global exporters.
