In 2021, South Africa was the 83rd biggest producer, behind Cyprus at 7,680 metric tons. Indonesia, India and Vietnam were the second, third and fourth highest producers respectively. Meanwhile, South African fish consumption is projected to drop 1.3% on average each year until 2026, to 141.99 thousand metric tons. This is a 3% dip since 2017.
