Global fish production is projected to reach 148 million metric tons by 2028, up from approximately 132 million metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 1.8%. Since 1965, the global supply has increased at an average rate of 2.7% per year. In 2023, China led global fish farming production with around 77 million metric tons. Indonesia, India, and Bangladesh followed, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. Notably, Kiribati saw a remarkable year-on-year increase of 74.6%, whereas the Bahamas experienced a decline of 31.5% annually since 1965. On the consumption front, global fish consumption is expected to decline slightly, reaching 22.5 million metric tons by 2028 from 22.7 million metric tons in 2023. This marks a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) decrease of 0.1%. Since 2019, global demand for fish has fallen by 0.2% year-on-year.
