Icelanders are set to import more salmon from abroad in the coming years. The country's salmon import is projected to grow 1.6% year on year and reach $1.35 million by 2026. This would mark an increase of 6.7% since 2006. Fish production in Iceland is also expected to rise over the same period. By 2026, output is anticipated to reach almost 27,000 metric tons - a 7.4% increase since 1980. This would place Iceland 56th in the global ranking of fish producers, with Czech Republic, Indonesia, India and Vietnam being the top four. Finally, domestic consumption of fish in Iceland is expected to remain relatively stable, with a projected 0.1% year on year growth to 14.8 thousand metric tons by 2026. This would represent a slight decrease of 1.1% since 2017.
