Global wheat consumption is expected to rise to 514 million metric tons by 2026, up from 504 million in 2021. This is an average annual growth rate of 0.3% since 2017. China was the largest consumer of wheat in 2021, with 94 million metric tons. India, the United States and Pakistan followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. The Central African Republic saw a year-on-year increase of 17%, while Slovakia declined by 3.2%. Global wheat production is anticipated to reach 812 million metric tons by 2026, up from 777 million in 2021. This is a compound annual growth rate of 0.8% since 1966. China was the leading producer of wheat in 2021, with 137 million metric tons. India, Russia and the United States took second, third and fourth place respectively. New Caledonia saw a year-on-year increase of 72%, while Colombia decreased by 30%.
