Global credit card transactions are projected to soar to $8.1 trillion by 2028, up from $7 trillion in 2023, marking an average annual growth rate of 2.2%. Since 2019, global demand for credit card transactions has increased by 1.7% each year. In 2023, the United States led the world in credit card transactions, totaling $4 trillion. South Korea, Japan, and Canada followed in the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. India saw a significant year-on-year increase of 3.9%, while France experienced a decline, decreasing by 13.8% since 2019. The global number of credit cards is also expected to rise, reaching approximately 3.2 billion units by 2028, up from 2.9 billion units in 2023. This represents an average annual growth of 1.6%. Since 2019, the global supply of credit cards has seen a modest increase of 0.5% each year. In 2023, the United States once again topped the charts, holding around 1.1 billion credit cards. China, Japan, and Brazil secured the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. India recorded a 2.9% annual growth rate in the number of credit cards, while Sweden saw a decline of 2.7% per year since 2019.
