This is up from 239,190 thousand metric tons in 2021. Since 2017, global supply has remained flat. India was the leading producer in 2021, accounting for 37,200 thousand metric tons. Brazil, the United States and Thailand followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. Turkmenistan saw a 9.1% year on year increase in production, whilst Benin saw a 20.6% decrease since 2017.
