Between 2013 and 2023, the share of pregnant women receiving prenatal care in Nigeria increased from 60.6% to 69.6%. This represents a positive trend, with data showing continuous growth each year. Notably, we observe an average annual growth of around 4.5% over the past decade. Over the last two years, the year-on-year variation was 1.4% in 2022, rising slightly to 1.2% in 2023. The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for the past five years stands at 0.59%.
From 2024 onwards, forecasts suggest the upward trend will continue, projecting the share to reach 72.2% by 2028, reflecting a forecasted 5-year growth rate of 3%. Key future trends to watch will be policy changes, healthcare infrastructure development, and educational initiatives promoting prenatal care awareness. These factors are likely to impact the prenatal care coverage positively.
