Global Cocoa Beans Production by Country

The Ivory Coast remains the dominant producer of cocoa beans globally, contributing 2.11 million metric tons in 2023, up by 1.4% from the previous year. Ghana follows, though far behind, with 0.963 million metric tons, showing a modest 0.31% increase. Indonesia saw a decline of 1.0%, landing at 0.565 million metric tons. Nigeria and Brazil also experienced slight reductions in production.

Cameroon and Ecuador displayed notable growth rates of 1.34% and 1.65%, respectively, while Sierra Leone exhibited the highest year-on-year increase at 4.73%. Peru, Uganda, and the Dominican Republic also witnessed positive trends.

However, countries like Togo and Brazil face declines, with Togo showing a 3.68% decrease. Malaysia stopped production altogether. Other small producers like Liberia and Nicaragua reported significant spikes at 8.45% and 5.15%, respectively, albeit from smaller bases.

Future trends to watch include the impact of climate change on production in West Africa, the rise of alternative cocoa-producing regions in Latin America, and advancements in agricultural technology aimed at boosting yields sustainably.
