In 2021, the country imported 293,450 metric tons of fertilizer, coming in at 18th place in the world rankings. The United Arab Emirates was the top importer with the same number of metric tons. Brazil, Spain, and Thailand followed as numbers two, three, and four respectively. Exports of fertilizer from France are expected to fall by 1.9% year-on-year, with 87,170 metric tons being exported in 2026. This places France 28th in the 2021 world rankings, with the United Arab Emirates again taking the lead. Norway, Belgium, and Finland followed in second, third, and fourth place respectively. French fertilizer production also saw an increase in 2014, reaching 801,630 metric tons from 663,990 metric tons in 2013. Since 2007, production has increased by an average of 3.8% year-on-year.
