Cheese consumption is on the rise, with an annual growth rate of 1.6%. In 2020, 155.7 million kilograms of cheese were consumed worldwide, an increase of 2.8% compared to the previous year. France, the United Kingdom and Germany were the second, third and fourth largest consumers of cheese in 2020. In Bulgaria, cheese production is expected to reach 91,450 metric tons by 2026, growing at an average rate of 0.4% year on year. Since 1966, Bulgarian production has increased by 1.4% year on year. In 2021, Bulgaria was the 33rd largest producer of cheese, with Syria ahead at 89,160 metric tons. Germany, France and Italy ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
