French biofuel production is projected to decline over the next five years, according to recent industry forecasts. The trend is not new; since 1997, French biofuel supply has been decreasing at an average annual rate of 7.8%, highlighting a long-term downward trajectory in domestic production. In contrast, demand for biofuel in France is set to rise significantly. By 2028, consumption is anticipated to reach nearly 78,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, up from about 69,000 barrels per day in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 2%. Historically, French biofuel demand has been on an upward trend, increasing by 5.4% per year since 1997. This growing demand underscores the country's shift towards renewable energy sources, even as domestic production continues to decline.
