European Bioenergy Trends in 2024
Bioenergy is part of Renewable Energy and includes a number of sub-sectors such as Biofuel. You may also be interested in Geothermal Energy, Solar Energy and Wind Power.
European bioenergy consumption is projected to decline slightly to 1,760 million metric tons by 2028, down from 1,790 million metric tons in 2023. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) decrease of 0.1% per year. Since 2019, the demand for bioenergy in Europe has consistently dropped by 0.1% annually. In 2023, Germany led the continent in bioenergy consumption, using approximately 275 million metric tons. Following Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively. Notably, Slovenia saw a year-on-year increase of 3% in bioenergy consumption, whereas Poland experienced a 3.9% decline annually since 2019.
