Gambian demand for goat meat is set to rise over the next five years, reaching 2.4 thousand metric tons by 2026. Since 2017, demand has remained stable. In 2021, Gambia was the 117th highest consumer in the world, while the Republic of the Congo ranked ahead at 2 thousand metric tons. India, Pakistan and Iran were the second, third and fourth highest consumers, respectively. Gambian goat meat production also rose between 2017 and 2018, reaching 1 thousand metric tons. In 2018, Gambia was the 121st highest producer in the world, while Cape Verde ranked ahead at 1 thousand metric tons. Australia, India and Pakistan were the second, third and fourth highest producers, respectively.
