South Africa is set to become a major importer of platinum by 2026. The country's demand for the metal is projected to rise 3.5% year on year, from $122.9 million in 2021 to $149 million. This represents a 46% increase since 2006. Singapore was the biggest importer in 2021, with Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom ranking second, third and fourth respectively. South Africa is also set to become a major exporter of platinum by 2026. The country's supply is projected to increase 0.8% year on year, from $7.9 billion in 2021 to $8.2 billion. This represents a 5.7% increase since 2006. The United Kingdom, Russia and the United States ranked second, third and fourth in the exporting rankings.
