Switzerland's production of onions is set to decline slightly over the next five years, according to a new report. It is estimated to reach 36,000 metric tons by 2026, down from 37,000 metric tons in 2021 - a drop of 0.3% each year. Since 2017, the country has seen a 0.9% annual decline in production. Switzerland was ranked 83rd in 2021, with Benin in the lead at 37,000 metric tons. India, the United States, and Egypt were the top three countries. Meanwhile, consumption of Swiss onions is expected to remain static over the same period, reaching 42,000 metric tons by 2026. This is down from 42,000 metric tons in 2021, an average decline of 0.8% each year. Switzerland came in 90th in 2021, with Ireland in the lead at 42,000 metric tons. India, the United States, and Egypt were again the top three countries.
