Production of onions in Malta is expected to reach 9,410 metric tons by 2026, a slight increase of 0.7% each year compared to the current 9,000 metric tons. Since 2017, production has remained steady. In 2021, Malta ranks 105th in production, just ahead of Haiti, while India, the United States and Egypt rank 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. In 2018, Maltese onion consumption reached 7,000 metric tons, the same as the previous year.
