Sri Lankan onion consumption is set to reach 350,000 metric tons by 2026, growing 0.5% each year on average since 2017. In 2021, Sri Lanka was the 40th largest consumer, with Canada overtaking at 338,000 metric tons. India, the United States and Egypt respectively came in as the second, third and fourth largest consumers. On the production side, Sri Lanka is set to produce 74,000 metric tons by 2026, dropping 4.3% year on year on average since 2017. In 2021, Sri Lanka was the 61st largest producer, with Belgium ahead at 95,000 metric tons. India, the United States and Egypt were respectively the second, third and fourth largest producers.
