Tanzanian chickpea production is projected to fall 1.7% year-on-year to around 41,000 metric tons by 2026. This follows a downward trend since 1966, with a decrease of 1.1% year-on-year. In 2021, Tanzania was ranked 15th in the world for chickpea production, coming in at 45,420 metric tons. Syria overtook Tanzania to be ranked first, with Myanmar, Russia, and Ethiopia following in second, third, and fourth places respectively.
