Since 1985, production has been declining year-on-year at a rate of 2.5%. Macedonia overtook Peru in 2021, becoming the fifteenth-largest producer of chestnuts with 571 metric tons. Spain, Bolivia, and South Korea followed in the rankings, coming in at numbers two, three, and four respectively.
