Portuguese chestnut production is on the rise. In 2021, the country produced 37,000 metric tons, up from the 35,000 metric tons produced in 1966. This marks an average growth rate of 1.9% year-on-year. In 2021, Portugal ranked fifth in the world for chestnut production. Italy led the way with 37,000 metric tons, followed by Spain, Bolivia and South Korea, respectively. By 2026, production is expected to reach 41,520 metric tons, a 6.7% year-on-year increase.
