In contrast, fish consumption in Egypt is expected to decline. By 2028, consumption is forecasted to reach about 281,000 metric tons, down from nearly 350,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 3.4%, a trend that has been ongoing since 2019. In 2023, Egypt ranked 19th in fish consumption globally, with Nigeria leading at the same consumption level of 350,000 metric tons. Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand followed, holding the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
