China's fish production is projected to surge, reaching approximately 87.8 million metric tons by 2028. This marks a notable increase from the estimated 77.2 million metric tons in 2023, reflecting an annual growth rate of 2%. Since 1965, the country's fish supply has seen a consistent annual increase of 3.1%. In contrast, Chinese fish consumption is expected to decline. By 2028, consumption is forecasted to drop to around 375,000 metric tons, down from 461,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an annual decrease of 3.3%. Since 2019, the demand for fish in China has been falling at a rate of 3.5% per year. Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand rank just behind China in terms of fish consumption, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
