The trend continues a long-term pattern, as Dutch fish supply has been decreasing by an average of 3.2% per year since 1965. In contrast, Dutch fish consumption is expected to rise. By 2028, consumption is forecasted to reach roughly 146,000 metric tons, up from about 130,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks an annual growth rate of 1.9% since 2019. The Netherlands ranked 33rd in fish consumption globally in 2023, with Australia slightly ahead at 130,000 metric tons. Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand occupied the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively, in the global ranking for fish consumption.
