Romanian fish production is projected to rise to approximately 12,000 metric tons by 2028, up from around 12,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks a modest annual growth rate of 0.1%. However, it is worth noting that since 1965, the country’s fish supply has declined by an average of 0.5% each year. In contrast, fish consumption in Romania is on an upward trajectory. By 2028, it is expected to reach nearly 88,000 metric tons, compared to roughly 83,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an annual growth rate of 1%. Since 2019, Romanian fish demand has seen a yearly increase of 1.3%. In 2023, Romania ranked 46th globally in fish consumption, with 83,000 metric tons. Bangladesh ranked just ahead, also with 83,000 metric tons. Leading the global ranking were Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions respectively.
