Malaysia is set to become one of the world's leading shellfish exporters and importers. By 2026, Malaysia's import of shellfish is expected to hit around $63 million, a 3% annual growth rate since 2021. Since 2000, imports have increased 1.9% each year. In 2021, Malaysia ranked 20th in terms of imports, behind Switzerland, who had imports of $51.8 million. Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom were the next three largest importers.
