Gambian overweight prevalence is set to rise by 2.4 points over the next five years. Currently, 34.5 percent of the adult population is overweight, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). This figure is expected to reach 36.9 percent by 2026. Since 1980, the overweight rate in Gambia has increased steadily, with a year-on-year growth rate of 1.6 points. The country is currently ranked 131st in the world, while China has overtaken Gambia with a prevalence rate of 34.5 percent. The Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Kiribati have the second, third, and fourth highest rates, respectively.
