By 2026, an estimated 42.7 percent of the world's adult population will be overweight or obese, up from 40.9 percent in 2021. This represents an average annual increase of 0.7 points since 1980. In 2021, Nauru had the highest rate of overweight and obesity, at 89.3 percent of the adult population. The Marshall Islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Laos saw the largest increase since 1980, at an average of 2.1 points per year, while Nauru's rate increased at an average rate of 0.2 points per year.
