The prevalence of overweight people in Ghana is set to increase by 2.2 points over the coming five years. Currently, 34.4% of the adult population is overweight, a figure that is expected to reach 36.6% by 2026. Since 1980, the trend has been consistently rising at an average rate of 1 point per year. In 2021, Ghana ranked 132nd in the world in terms of overweight prevalence. Gambia was ahead at 34.4%, while The Marshall Islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
