Egypt is expected to consume 257,000 metric tons of sorghum in 2026, up from 253,000 in 2021 – an increase of 0.2% per year on average. Since 2017, demand for the grain has been steady. In 2021, Egypt was ranked 11th for sorghum consumption; Tanzania came in ahead at 253,000 metric tons. India, China and Ethiopia were the top three in the rankings. Egypt’s production of sorghum is set to reach 797,680 metric tons by 2026 – up from 795,070 in 2021 – a growth of 0.1% per year on average. Since 1966, production has risen by 1.9% annually. In 2021, Egypt was ranked 16th; Bolivia was ahead at 795,070 metric tons. Nigeria, Ethiopia and Mexico were the top three in the rankings.
