Benin is set to see a rise in its sorghum consumption and production in the coming years. Consumption is projected to reach 124 thousand metric tons by 2026, a 1% year-on-year increase on average. This growth has been steady since 2017, at 0.6% year on year. Benin ranked 20th in the world for sorghum consumption in 2021, with Uganda overtaking it at 116 thousand metric tons. India, China, and Ethiopia took the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spots respectively. Production is also set to see a rise, reaching 272,260 metric tons by 2026, with a 2.2% year-on-year growth on average. This is an increase of 13% year-on-year since 1966. Benin was 27th in the world for production in 2021, with Kenya coming ahead at 239,100 metric tons. Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Mexico took the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spots respectively.
