Gambians are set to consume 28,000 metric tons of sorghum by 2026, up from 26,000 metric tons in 2021, growing at an average rate of 1.5% a year. Since 2017, demand for sorghum has grown by 2.7% each year. In 2021, Gambia was ranked 34th in the world for consumption, with Haiti overtaking them with 26,000 metric tons. India, China and Ethiopia followed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively. Meanwhile, Gambian production of sorghum is forecast to reach 32,370 metric tons by 2026, up from 30,450 metric tons in 2021, growing at an average rate of 1% a year. Since 1966, Gambian supply has jumped by 2.1% a year. In 2021, the country was ranked 59th in the world for production, with Austria overtaking them at 30,450 metric tons. Nigeria, Ethiopia and Mexico then followed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively.
