Burmese consumption of sorghum is expected to reach 115,000 metric tons by 2026. This represents an annual growth rate of 1.1%, higher than the 0.3% growth rate seen since 2017. In 2021, the country ranked 22nd globally, with Kenya overtaking at 108,000 metric tons. India, China, and Ethiopia ranked second, third, and fourth in that order. Meanwhile, Burmese production of sorghum is forecast to reach 125,500 metric tons by 2026, a decrease of 3% year on year. Since 2002, Burmese supply has dropped by 9.5% year on year. In 2021, Rwanda overtook Burmese production with 150,220 metric tons, while Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Mexico came in second, third, and fourth respectively.
