This represents a 0.1% yearly average increase since 2021, which saw 7.31 trillion vehicle-kilometers. Despite this growth, overall demand has fallen by 0.9% since 2016. The United States is the leader in global road traffic volume, with an estimated 4.75 trillion vehicle-kilometers in 2021. Japan, the United Kingdom and Australia followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. Lithuania saw the highest increase year-on-year since 2016, with an 11.8% jump, while Malta experienced the greatest decrease at 5.3%.
